Principal's Messages

Welcome to our school!

St. Benedict School is an elementary Spanish Bilingual School, located at 10340 19th Street SW. We serve families south of the Glenmore Reservoir, west to Springbank, south to the city limits and S.E. and S.W. of Glenmore Trail. This program is offered in cooperation with the government of Spain. The Spanish Bilingual program allows students to gain insight into the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish speaking countries around the world. The Alberta Education Program of Studies is taught in all courses. Students divide their time evenly studying 50% in Spanish and 50% in English. The Alberta Education Program of Studies is followed, with particular emphasis on the Communicative Approach to language learning. Previous Spanish experience is not required for students entering kindergarten or Grade 1; at the grade 2 level and upwards, a Spanish Competency interview is required to enrol at the school.

At St. Benedict School, we strive to provide a quality inclusive education for the students in our care. Our staff is dedicated to working together with high energy and commitment to ensure that our students reach their full potential.

We have a very active school community and there is a strong sense of partnership between the school staff, parents, and our parish, Holy Spirit Church. Our goal is to provide a quality Catholic education in a loving Christian environment. We believe that the job of educating our students can only be accomplished by the continued cooperation between home and school within a framework of mutual respect, collaboration and participation. Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in the school. When parents attend school functions, parent-teacher interviews, or volunteer, they demonstrate to their children that they value school and education. Coming to School Council meetings and becoming involved in council is also another way in which parents learn about what’s going on at the school.
