Educational Support and Programs
Educational Support Level III
Escuela St. Benedict houses a district Special Needs program for students who have been identified with severe specific special needs. The ESIII teacher provides academic instruction and life skills to students in a small group setting.
Instructional Support Team
District personnel provide support to our staff in developing strategies designed to address student needs. Strategies may involve action, which can be taken by the home or the school, services, or support, which could be provided by outside agencies or possible special education placements.
Students identified as needing speech therapy receive services from Speech and Language Pathologists provided by the Calgary Health Region. Assessment and remediation of speech and language challenges are provided as needed throughout the school year.
The Calgary Health Region provides a Community Health Nurse to service our school on a regular basis. The Nurse acts as health consultant and resource person in the planning and presentation of health programs offered at our school.
The CHR Nurse monitors communicable diseases and other student health issues. If your child should contract a communicable disease, please notify the school.
Our library has transitioned to a Learning Commons. A Learning Commons is a shared learning space that is both physical and virtual. It supports a student-centred approach that emphasizes active and collaborative engagement and encourages the co-creation of knowledge by all learners.
A Learning Commons provides individual, small and large group space, either physical or virtual for instruction, social/collaborative learning, and production and presentation. It also provides global and cultural understanding as students collaborate with their local and broader community to investigate and create solutions for complex problems.
The virtual aspect of the Learning Commons promotes more efficient use of technology for creation and sharing of knowledge as well as enabling 24/7 access to resources and shared collaborative space for all students.
