Calgary Catholic provides transportation services with generous eligibility criteria, bus stops located within a short distance to students’ homes, and reasonable annual fees. The cost of our current level of service is significantly greater than the government transportation funding we receive. To close the funding gap, we have supplemented our transportation funding with a combination of classroom funding and annual fees. Unfortunately, transportation costs continue to increase, and the supplemental funding required from the classroom has reached unsustainable levels.
Transportation Service Levels for Kindergarten to Grade 6
The health and safety of our students remains a top priority at Calgary Catholic. The provincial government continues to require school divisions to provide transportation to students who live 2.4 km or more from the school in their attendance area. In recent years, Calgary Catholic provided charter bus transportation services to elementary students who lived 1.2 km or more from the school in their regular or Program of Choice attendance area. Starting in the 2020-21 school year, Calgary Catholic will provide charter bus transportation services to elementary students who live 1.8 km or more from the school in their regular or Program of Choice attendance area.* Because of this change, some students who received transportation services for the 2019-20 school year may no longer qualify to receive transportation services in September 2020.
Programs of Choice: Transportation is provided only for students attending elementary French Immersion, Spanish Bilingual, or Fine Arts programs.
While we understand that the transportation service changes for 2020-21 may be challenging, we thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate through these changes. See page 2 for important 2020-21 registration instructions.
